This table provides metadata for the actual indicator available from UK statistics closest to the corresponding global SDG indicator. Please note that even when the global SDG indicator is fully available from UK statistics, this table should be consulted for information on national methodology and other UK-specific metadata information.

Other information |
For ages 7 and 11, figures before 2015 to 2016 are not comparable to figures from 2015 to 2016 onwards due to a change in assesments. National figures in the Key stage 1 and phonics screening check attainment and Key stage 2 attainment publications report figures for all schools in England. Therefore, some percentages at national level will differ with the state-funded schools in England reported here. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department for Education cancelled the 2019 to 2020 national curriculum assessments (Key Stage 1 & Key Stage 2) and associated data collections. Furthermore, the summer exams were cancelled in 2020. Pupils scheduled to sit GCSE and A/AS level exams in 2020 were awarded either a centre assessment grade or their calculated grade using a model developed by Ofqual. The new method of awarding grades has led to a set of pupil attainment statistics that are unlike previous years. As a result the 2019 to 2020 data should not be directly compared to attainment data from previous years for the purposes of measuring changes in student performance and, therefore, are not presented on this graph. For more information please visit DfE Key Stage 4 2019 to 2020 This indicator is being used as an approximation of the UN SDG Indicator. Where possible, we will work to identify or develop UK data to meet the global indicator specification. This indicator has been identified in collaboration with topic experts. |
