Children are assessed in three prime areas of learning (communication and language, physical development and personal and social emotional development) and four specific areas of learning (expressive arts and design, literacy, mathematics, understanding the world). Children achieving the expected level across all early learning goals (ELGs) are those with an ‘expected’ level of development in all 17 ELGs. |

Region and local authority, major ethnic group, free school meals, Prime areas of learning and their higher sub-categories. Minor ethnic group, special educational needs, specific areas of learning and the lower learning sub-categories are not displayed here due to the size of the complete data set. Prior to 2021/22, Chinese children were included in the 'Other' category. Based on new guidance, Chinese children are now included in the 'Asian' category in the 2021/22 data, and the 'Unclassified' ethnic group category describes cases where a child's ethnicity was refused or not obtained. These children are included in the 'Total' numbers. |

Other information |
The EYFSP is an England-specific measure. This is the first publication since the 2021/22 EYFS reforms were introduced in September 2021. As part of those reforms, the EYFS profile was significantly revised. It is therefore not possible to directly compare 2021/22 assessment outcomes with earlier years. It is also the first release since the publication of the 2018/19 statistics, as the 2019/20 and 2020/21 data collections were cancelled due to coronavirus (COVID-19). DfE Early years founation stage profile results 2019/20 and DfE Early years foundation stage profile results 2020/21 This indicator is being used as an approximation of the UN SDG Indicator. Where possible, we will work to identify or develop UK data to meet the global indicator specification. This indicator has been identified in collaboration with topic experts. |
