This table provides metadata for the actual indicator available from UK statistics closest to the corresponding global SDG indicator. Please note that even when the global SDG indicator is fully available from UK statistics, this table should be consulted for information on national methodology and other UK-specific metadata information.

Definitions |
Terminal passengers - All revenue and non-revenue passengers joining or leaving an aircraft at a United Kingdom airport. The terminal passenger figures displayed on this page are presented as the number of terminal passengers (arrivals and departures) at UK reporting airports in thousands. A passenger travelling between two reporting airports is counted twice, once at each airport. A passenger who changes from one aircraft to another is a terminal passenger both on arrival and departure. Freight - The weight of other property carried on an aircraft excluding mail and passengers’ and crews’ permitted baggage. The freight figures displayed on this page are presented as the amount of freight handled (set down and picked up) at UK reporting airports in thousand tonnes. Freight in transit through the airport on the same aircraft is excluded. Domestic services - Services flown entirely within the United Kingdom, excluding the Crown Dependencies. International services - Services flown between the United Kingdom and places outside of the United Kingdom, including the Crown Dependencies. This includes traffic to and, or from oil rigs. |

Other information |
Data available to download from Link to data source in Source 1 only goes back to 2011. The data presented on this page excludes air-taxi operations, the Channel Islands and Isle of Man airports. Figures for 2020 and 2021 were impacted by the travel restrictions implemented in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This indicator is being used as an approximation of the UN SDG Indicator. Where possible, we will work to identify or develop UK data to meet the global indicator specification. This indicator has not been identified in collaboration with topic experts. |
